Located at Roosevelt Avenue in San Antonio, the San Antonio Missions National Historic Park offers visitors a unique insight into the legacy on San Antonio, which is believed to have begun with the establishment of the first Franciscan and Spanish mission in 1718.
Today, visitors to the park can view the early life of the natives, the tremendous work carried out by the missionaries and the way of life, as it was in the early 18th century with the array of interpretative exhibits the park is home to. Here, you can visit the four mission churches, the Espada acequia irrigation system which is almost 270 years old and examine the array of exhibits on docent-guided tours. The park also conducts a number of demonstrations, and movie viewing to allow you a better insight into the history of this region.
Nature enthusiasts will inevitably delight in the diverse array of bird and plant species that the park is home to. If you're looking for a spot of adventure, surrounded by the tranquility of nature at her most beautiful, embark on a bike ride or hike through the park, the paved pathways of which are suitable for aficionados of all ages.
The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park welcomes visitors from 9 am to 5 pm all through the week. Admission is free of cost and the park management does not require you to make reservations for your arrival in advance.
