The Laurel Heights United Methodist Church was established in 1909. The church was developed due to the need of a church within the growing Monte Vista community. The cornerstone for the present church building was laid in 1911. The church building was completed in 1912, in time for the Easter service. The church is located at the corner of Woodlawn and Belknap, one block east of San Pedro Avenue. With the beautiful architecture of the early 1900s inside and out, the church stands as a beautiful addition to the San Antonio landscape. The church offers a surreal setting for weddings and other events. The Laurel Heights United Methodist Church offers a full schedule of services, offering Sunday School and two traditional services every Sunday. Wednesday nights offer dinner and another worship service. Laurel Heights United Methodist Church is very involved in community ministries. They have programs geared to all ages and stages of life. Their MOPS program is geared to mothers with pre-school aged children. The Super Adults program offers varied activities to the senior citizens of San Antonio.
