Every year in the month of October, the citizens of San Antonio celebrates San Antonio Founder's Day with great enthusiasm. The organizer of this event is a Non-profit organization called The San Antonio Founders Day Alliance. The reason behind choosing the month of October for this celebration is that there are not much events in the city in October.
This day is celebrated in the memory of Saint Anthony as a Fiesta. Fiesta is a Latin word for a feast day, where the birthdays of the saints are celebrated. With variety of people coming in San Francisco, the various cultures merged in the soil of the city making it renowned for its communal harmony.
San Antonio Founder's Day, hence, brings people of various cultural origins together and makes them recall the old times. People recollect the famous stories, events, River Walks, Spanish missions and their favourite sport heroes on this day.
The main motto behind this celebration is to acknowledge the expansion and the development of the city as a society since 1700s. Thus, San Antonio Founder's Day is a tribute to the Native Americans, Hispanics, the 55 Spaniards, the pioneers from the United States, who entered San Francisco in the 1820s and 1830s, the Texians and Tejanos and more than 20 cultural groups residing in San Antonio since 1968 who have contributed in developing the city.
There are various contests promoting the heritage of San Francisco. Many school and college students in San Francisco take part in such competitions. To encourage students to read, there are many scholarship contests also. All these contests as well as the other events are open for all and require no admission fees.
