Anyone in the San Antonio area on the last Saturday of each month is likely to find themselves in for a serious treat if getting out and seeing downtown is on tap. The Alamo City is famed for a number of special events. One of them is the monthly Houston Street Fair & Market.
The free, one-day event is a favorite for locals and a great stop for visitors. With a theme-based calendar that changes every month, the street fair is a big draw for families and individuals who want to get out and have a little fun without having to spend a fortune in the process.
Visitors to the street fair will find the themes range from rodeos and history to sports and patriotism. Although the main themes do change, visitors will find a few mainstays keep continuity going at each fair. Guests can always count on a children's activity area, plenty of food, refreshments and special events. Arts and crafts vendors are also common sights at the monthly event.
The street fair takes place in downtown and runs from noon to 6 p.m. There is no charge to enter, but bring some money along for shopping and dining. Lawn chairs or blankets are also suggested for catching the live entertainment. Parking is free in some areas, but charges may apply in others.
