Fall at the Alamo is an annual re-enactment event of the life and times of the citizens that lived in San Antonio during the years of 1835 to 1846. The event is hosted by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and it is literally a chance to be transported back in time when Texas was still an independent republic. During this event volunteers dress in authentic clothing and continue on with their lives, just as they would have if they have been living close to 200 years ago.
There are specific demonstration on the type of daily living issues that people of that time would be faced with including a blacksmith, soap making, butter churning and cooking demonstrations using real equipment and supplies from the time period. Exacting attention to detail is part of the demonstrations and events, with special attractions for children that include hands on activities to increase their understanding of Texas history.
While at the Alamo for the "Fall at the Alamo" presentation, guests can also tour through the Alamo itself and see the many historic displays of this cultural center. There is a gift shop on site that enables visitors to purchase replica items as well as art and books on the Alamo and Texas history. The Alamo is within easy walking distance of art galleries, unique shops, major shopping malls and many different types of restaurants. The Riverwalk is just a short distance from the Alamo and provides additional shopping and dining options for the whole family.
