CineFestival
Located in on the west side of San Antonio, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is a nonprofit organization that holds the CineFestival in the Guadalupe Theater, also called the Guadalupe. The theater is looking for videos and films relevant to the Chicano, Latino and Native American communities.
The CineFestival is an annual event that has taken place for more than 30 years; it is one of the oldest film festivals in the United States to feature multiethnic cultures and disciplines in the film industry. The CineFestival features the media arts, theater arts, dance literature and music. All films must be original, and cannot be submitted if they have already been submitted in subsequent years.
The staff of the Guadalupe Theater with the expertise of a curator will preview and choose films and videos for screening at the CineFestival. Cash prizes are awarded to the winners selected from these five categories: Best Feature Prize, which is a narrative documentary film or video that lasts at least 40 minutes; Best Short Prize, which is a narrative documentary film or video lasting under 40 minutes; Best South Texas First Film Prize; Best Experimental Prize; and the Best San Antonio Youth Prize.
If you are interested in competing in the CineFestival your film or video should be submitted on VHS, DVD or MiniDV tape. Your name and the title of your film or video must be on the tapes or DVD. There is an application fee; money orders, MasterCard, American Express and Visa are accepted. For more information you can phone the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center; the number is (210) 271-3151.
