On the grounds of the Alamo is the Wall of History, the Convento Courtyard, and the Long Barrack Museum. With such an extensive list of places to visit, you can get a thorough feel of the Alamo and the history that changed the course of the Texan culture.
History
The Alamo was founded in the 18th century by the Spanish and was called Mission San Antonio de Velaro. Home to missionaries and their Indian converts, the mission was quiet for 70 years. Shortly after, the site became a military garrison and then the Texian Fort in the Texas Revolution. As tension grew between Mexico and Texas, the Seige and Battle of the Alamo occurred on the grounds that are the remains of the fierce battle for Texan freedom. With famous pioneers like Davy Crockett and James Bowie fighting for Texas, this battle will forever be remembered.
