San Antonio is a picturesque town, filled with beautiful parks dedicated to historical and recreational purposes. Hemisfair Park was once the site of the World's Fair, and today is a beautiful location in central San Antonio, close to the convention center, the Institute of Texan Cultures, and other popular attractions. The park has fountains, green open airs, a children's playground, and the famous Tower of the Americas. Lady Bird Johnson Park is named after the former first lady, and is popular for skateboarding, swimming in the pool, softball, hiking, and tennis. The wide open fields at Rosedale Park make the perfect spot to grab a blanket and soak up some rays. This park also is used for soccer and basketball.
Crockett Park, or Twin Peaks Park as the locals call it, is a popular venue for community festivals and group events, but you can also find recreational activities such as jogging, kickball, and bicycling on the beautiful grounds. Another popular site for group activities is the Mateo Camargo Park, which has a full-service kitchen, pavilions, a bandstand, and play areas for kids.
Olmos Basin Park is a wonderful park with large shade trees, barbecue grills, picnic tables, and a paved area for joggers and bicyclers. If you are visiting San Antonio with your dog, check out the 260- acre Pearsall Dog Park, with tons of water fountains shaped like fire hydrants, fenced in areas, and pet play accessories. The beautiful San Pedro Springs Park is the second oldest American park. This 46-acre park was established in the 18th century and features a pool, gazebo, restrooms, playground, softball fields, tennis courts, and a skate area.
The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is an expansive 819 acres that is filled with historic landmarks and structures, including such famed missions as San Jose, San Juan, and Espada Concepcion. Travis Park is a small four-corner park in the middle of downtown San Antonio that was once included as part of the Alamo's grounds. Today the park has bathrooms, a gazebo, and a pavilion.
