The Institute of Texan Cultures
The Institute of Texan Cultutres museum is home to exhibits telling the story of how this amazing state came to be what it is today.
Texas has a rich and very diverse history that has shaped so many lives, as well as the nation's own history, and you can experience this rich history with the Institute of Texan Cultures. Each of the famous "six flags over Texas" stands for a county that has claimed Texas as its own over the last couple hundred years. With that kind of basic history in just the last few hundred years, you can see that the culture in Texas is incredibly rich — a blend of so many different people.
This is just a small glimpse of the exhibits and knowledge on exhibit at the 500,000 square foot museum. You'll also hear about the state's science and technology background, and about Texas' background in the oil rush. The Institute is located on the campus of the University of Texas at San Antonio, on South Bowie Street in central San Antonio.
